Environmental Benefits of Recycling

Environmental Benefits of Recycling

Before explaining the benefits of recycling rubber, we should first address the question: What is recycled rubber and where does it come from?

Recycled rubber primarily comes from used tyres which is then reduced into uniform granules or crumb rubber. It goes through a refining process that removes all contaminants such as dust, glass, rock, steel, or fiber, creating a versatile base material which can then be used in many ways.

Recycled rubber primarily comes from used tyres which is then reduced into uniform granules or crumb rubber. It goes through a refining process that removes all contaminants such as dust, glass, rock, steel, or fiber, creating a versatile base material which can then be used in many ways.

So, why should you use recycled rubber products?

Less Energy Consumption

The initial production of rubber consumes a significant amount of energy. This means that there is increased greenhouse gas emissions affecting the atmosphere. This constant emission of greenhouse gases will continue to damage our environment as we continue to produce new rubber.

The process of making new products from recycled materials is far easier and a lot less energy is consumed during the production process. For instance, recycling four tires result in a reduction of carbon dioxide emission by around 323 pounds which is equal to an 18-gallon tank of gasoline!

There’s also up to 20 times less carbon footprint used when recycling rubber. Without a doubt, recycling benefits our environment considerably and has long lasting, positive effects on our planet.

Landfill Space Conservation

Every year, Australians dispose over 50 million tyres that have reached the end of their life, approximately 459,000 tonnes! Of that number, only around 5% are recycled locally. The rest are either disposed of in landfills, kept in stockpiles, dumped illegally, or exported.

Recycling these tyres has the potential to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as well as create new industry opportunities since this is a far more efficient process than producing new rubber.

Reduces Environmental Pollution

Besides creating more space in landfills, recycling rubber also help reduce pollution. In many cases, waste materials are exposed to large amounts of sunlight which causes the material to break down and release harmful toxins. Discarded tyres are also a prime water collection point, creating a breeding ground for diseases. In some cases, tyres can find their way into rivers, lakes or ocean, contaminating them and potentially harming sea life.

By recycling rubber products, these harmful consequences are lessened and the need for rubber tree plantations is reduced which also allow us to preserve more native forests.

New Products & Innovative Creations

Today, recycled rubber products have become extremely useful in many industries, creating versatile products that are durable, resilient, and usually better than their regular alternatives! For instance, recycled tires produce fuel which is far more efficient than the regular coal fuel. Recycled rubber is also used for playground and gym turf, railroad ties, rubberized asphalt, car park curbing, wheelchair ramps, and so much more!

At Envirorubber, recycled rubber is our specialty and a material we take pride in using. We supply a large range of fully recycled rubber products, made solely from discarded tyres and have even created bespoke rubber products for specialty projects!

From playing your part to help keep our planet green, to providing thousands of jobs, recycled rubber is the most efficient path to take when you’re in need of rubber products.
